Horse-surfing and the risk of whiplash claims

Extreme sports are becoming more and more popular and today you can do anything from braving freezing conditions and great heights while ice climbing to attaching a wakeboard to a horse and having the ride of your life.

However, behind all the pumping adrenaline lies the risk of sustaining personal injury and if you find yourself injured as a result of poor instruction or faulty equipment you could make a whiplash claim through The Claim Solicitors.

A new extreme
Back in the late 1980s early 1990s extreme sports used to refer to adult sports such as skydiving, rock climbing, mountaineering and bungee jumping. However, today the term 'extreme sports' seems to be accurately associated with baggy clothed youths who take part in skateboarding, snowboarding and aerial tricks on a BMX.

One of the latest extreme sports to take enthusiasts by storm is horse-surfing. This could be described as surf 'n' turf but it does not involve a big juicy rump steak and a few breaded scampi; it involves two people, a horse and a wakeboard.

Wakeboarding usually entails a surfer performing stunts while being towed behind a speed boat. On the other hand, horse-surfing, dreamt up by horse stuntman Daniel-Fowler Prime and his friends, involves a surfer being towed by a horse galloping along a beach. Denzil Williams, one of his associates commented, "It's exhilarating - like environmentally friendly wakeboarding"

"You're harnessing two of nature's powers: the power of the horse and the motion of the sea. It's great not to have a loud, noisy engine, and horse brings unpredictability to the sport. I did it with one horse that was steady, but the next was like a wild stallion."

This shows that sportsman have less control over extreme sports as they would, for example, a game of football or tennis, especially where a large capricious animal is involved. Both horse riding and water sports run the risk of back and neck injuries such as whiplash and when combined it stands to reason that participants are even more vulnerable.

Regardless of the type of extreme sport you are into, you are still at great risk of sustaining serious personal injury if you, or someone or something else involved, make one wrong move and have an accident. This risk is heightened further if you are not wearing protective clothing such as a helmet and knee pads or using the correct protective equipment such as a harness.
