Personal injury solicitor helps former dock worker

In February 2005 one of our claim advisors, Lee-Anne, received a call from the daughter of a 68-year-old former dock worker from Hampshire, enquiring as to whether her father had a good case to make a compensation claim against his previous employer and whether we could put him in touch with a personal injury solicitor that could help.

She told us how her father was diagnosed with mesothelioma after being exposed to significant quantities of asbestos dust at his place of employment more than 50 years ago.

He was required to move crates containing asbestos dust from ships into warehouses on the dock-side and was exposed to substantial amounts of the lethal substance on a daily basis, as were all his co-workers.

This was a job that he carried out for around six years with two different dock-side companies, unaware of the fact that the cargoes that he was required to move around actually contained a potentially harmful substance.

He realised there was a problem when he started suffering from shortness of breath and chest pains and he suspected that he may have developed asbestosis and it wasn't long before his doctor diagnosed him with the fatal cancer.

We told the man's daughter that it sounded likely that we could help her father to make a compensation claim. She asked us about the process involved in finding a suitable personal injury solicitor and we told her that we would put her in touch with a solicitor in the Hampshire area who specialises in claims associated with asbestos-related diseases.

The daughter then enquired about our no win no fee policy and Lee-Anne explained that if her father's personal injury claim was unsuccessful then he would not be responsible for paying any fees.

We phoned to talk to him the very next day and subsequently helped him to pursue a claim against both his former employers for the pain and suffering this terrible illness had caused both him and his family. The man sadly died before a settlement was made but his wife continued the claim on his behalf and was awarded 152,000. Read more about claiming on behalf of someone who has died.
