Misdiagnosed man contacted personal injury solicitors
A man who had his stomach removed after wrongly being diagnosed with cancer
has been given a six figure personal injury compensation payout.
John Ford, from Bloxwhich, spoke to personal injury solicitors after medical
negligence left him unable to eat anything but soft and mashed food for the rest
of his life.
Mr Ford was 68 when he was mistakenly diagnosed with stomach cancer and
had his stomach removed at the Walsall Manor Hospital in October 2002.
He contacted personal injury solicitors after it was discovered that the hospital
pathologist had misdiagnosed him with cancer when he only had a benign
tumour.
Mr Ford, now 72, had been looking forward to his retirement and spending time
with his wife Joan but says the medical negligence has seriously limited what he
can do.
He said, "I now have no stomach and am in constant pain and discomfort. I am
either constipated or have diarrhoea and am afraid to leave the house in case I
need a bathroom.
At Birmingham Crown Court earlier this month, the Royal Wolverhampton
Hospitals NHS Trust admitted liability for breach of duty of care and Mr Ford
received compensation for his personal injury claim.
