Engineer awarded compensation for personal injury claim
A former aircraft engineer has been awarded £20,000 after his employer ignored advice and exposed him to repetitive work on vibrating machinery.
Michael Jones, made a personal injury claim after he was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, forcing him to take an early retirement from GE Engine Aircraft Services.
Mr Jones worked for the company for 24 years as an engineer and in 1992 was diagnosed with Vibration White Finger.
The disorder can be caused by using vibrating tools and so a company doctor recommended that he should no longer work on machinery that involved vibration.
However, the engineer's employer ignored this medical advice and continued to expose Mr Jones to vibration and repetitive work.
Mr Jones developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and in 2000 he was forced to leave his work.
Mr Jones decided to contact a personal injury solicitor and made a compensation claim for his workplace injuries.
GE Engine Aircraft Services awarded Mr Jones a total of £20,000 in compensation for his hand injuries.
