Employee contacted personal injury solicitors after fall at work

A warehouse assistant who tripped and fell down a flight of stairs at work has received £7,000 in an out-of-court settlement.

Paul Ashmore, of Woodhouse, Sheffield, contacted a personal injury solicitor after suffering a number of injuries in an accident at work.

Mr Ashmore was working as a sales assistant for J T Frith LTD at Polar Way in Catcliffe and was helping a customer by carrying a large mirror down two flights of stairs when the work accident happened.

The 36-year-old suffered serious personal injuries when he tripped on a brass strip and fell to the bottom of the staircase, smashing the mirror.

An ambulance was called to the warehouse and Mr Ashmore was taken to Rotherham Hospital where he was treated for a lacerated knee, broken finger and bruising to the face.

He said, "It was a very scary experience, one moment I was helping a customer down a flight of stairs with her mirror and the next I was lying dazed at the bottom of the stairs. I needed quite a bit of help initially following my accident and also suffered some depression. I have also been left with significant scarring to my left knee."

Personal injury solicitor, Lisa Fairclough, said, "The premises that Mr Ashmore was working at did not have a lift. He therefore had to carry the mirror, which was quite large, down a flight of stairs. Mr Ashmore's accident could have been avoided had the bulky items been positioned on the ground floor."
