Carpenter killed by concrete slab

An inquest into the death of a Weston man killed by a concrete paving slab in 2007, has heard how he had planned to marry his partner before the tragedy struck.

The 40-year-old was killed while working as a carpenter on a construction site at Bath University on November 5, 2007.

The carpenter died after one of the props supporting a large concrete slab gave way causing the slab to fall onto him.

The Weston resident was pronounced dead at 11.18am after suffering multiple injuries. The incident was witnessed by fellow construction workers and CCTV footage caught the steel prop propelling outwards before snapping under the pressure of the weight.

His 34-year-old partner said he was very aware of the dangers of working on construction sites having had friends who had died in building site accidents.

More than 20 people will be giving evidence throughout the week to determine the exact circumstances that led to the man's work accident.
