Man dies after crushing incident at steel plant
A work accident has prompted a health and safety investigation after an engineering worker was crushed and killed at a steel production firm.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said the exact circumstances were still under investigation but the man had died after a large steel structure had fallen on him.
It is believed that a three-quarter ton steel panel fell on him from a pre-fabricated building that was being prepared to be moved to another location.
The worker's employer, Engineering and Construction Products based in Northern Ireland, said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children and family circle."
According to media reports, the employee was freed after the work accident and had been able to talk after being crushed in the incident - but upon reaching hospital, he passed away hours later.
