Fine and compensation paid by company
Work accident compensation has been paid out to a 50-year-old construction worker who suffered a spinal fracture in a fall from scaffolding.
He fell 10ft while working on scaffolding during the building of a new bungalow near Sunderland and now needs to wear a back brace, something which is likely to be a factor in the award of his work accident compensation.
He also suffered a minor injury to his shoulder as well as damage to the ligaments in his left knee from the fall.
The firm the claimant was working for have admitted to breaching health and safety law and have been fined £10,000 for failing to carry out a suitable risk assessment.
The prosecuting solicitor commented that the injured man has suffered "physically, mentally and emotionally".
The firm who have been forced to pay the work accident compensation commented that they "deeply regretted" the accident. A spokesperson added, "The company's thoughts are with the injured party and his family".
