Scaffolding firm admit liability for work accident

An Essex man who lost his leg in a tragic work accident plans to claim up to £300,000 compensation after the scaffolding firm he worked for admitted liability.

Loss adjusters for the firm have now accepted liability according to a High Court writ.

Since the accident the man has endured loss of earnings; he will now be disadvantaged in the labour market, and has suffered major depression as a result of the work injury.

His wife has also had to give up work to care for him, and he has had to give up hobbies that he enjoyed on a regular basis.

The accident occurred in 2005 when the worker partly fell through a metal cage that had been erected around a set of fans. It is claimed the caging was already damaged and had been repaired using string.

The man's leg became trapped in the fans and had to be amputated as a result.

A spokesman for the scaffolding company would not comment on the work accident; he said that the matter was in the hands of insurers.
