£1m work accident compensation claim for chip shop worker

A Liverpool chip shop employee could receive £1 million work accident compensation after suffering a slip, trip and fall injury at work.

The 56-year-old woman had just finished working her shift and was leaving the shop when she slipped on the wet tiled floor.

The accident caused the woman to hit her head and be knocked unconscious. The fall also caused damage to her spinal column.

Personal injury lawyers acting for the woman claimed that the accident could leave their client dependant on a wheelchair in the future.

Her claim for accident at work compensation against her employer, who denies liability for the incident, was heard at London's High Court.

It was ruled that the woman had been 15% liable for her own injuries but that the chip shop proprietor had breached Health and Safety Regulations and should be held 85% responsible for the accident.

The final amount of work accident compensation to be awarded to the claimant has not yet been decided, however, due to the extensive injuries, her personal injury lawyers are confident that damages will be in excess of £1 million.
