Man breaks thumb lorry driving

A man, whose thumb was crushed in a work accident, has successfully claimed more than £5,000 in personal injury compensation.

The Grimsby lorry driver suffered the injury when the roof door of a lorry crashed down on him, hitting his shoulder and trapping his thumb against a lever.

The injury ripped the driver's thumbnail and broke the bone resulting in the man needing nine stitches to close the wound.

After contacting his union about his accident at work, the driver was awarded £5,500 in personal injury compensation.

His personal injury solicitor commented, "Employers have a legal responsibility to provide safe work systems and to ensure their employees are properly trained."

The company the driver was working for at the time he suffered the injury refused to comment on his work accident claim.
