Driver and passenger escape from exploding taxi
After suffering what could have been a serious passenger accident, one woman was lucky to be alive after the taxi she was travelling in burst into flames.
The taxi was in a car accident with a Seat Toledo at the junction of Knole Road and Southcote Road in Boscombe, Dorset, at around 6.45am.
The 40-year-old taxi driver and his female passenger both managed to escape the burning Citroen Picasso before it exploded.
A witness to the car crash said, "The road was filled with smoke. The driver was stood away. He seemed a little shocked."
Police closed the road following the accident while council staff laid gravel on a fuel spillage caused by the collision. Dorset fire brigade was called to attend to the fire.
No one was arrested from the crash and, despite the taxi being destroyed by the flames, neither the taxi driver nor the female fare suffered serious injuries in the passenger accident.
