Window cleaner avoids accident at work after nodding off

A window cleaner was lucky not to be involved in a potentially fatal accident at work after he fell asleep on the job - whilst hanging outside the 20th floor of a US skyscraper.

Luckily, the man didn't roll off his gantry and fall several hundred feet to the ground or else he would have suffered serious personal injuries and almost certainly have died.

Concerned passers-by in Nashville, Tennessee, were worried about the possibility of a work accident and called emergency services to come and rescue the man. He was eventually woken up by firefighters who tugged on his ropes and held a sign up inside the building to get his attention.

Awake and realising where he was, the window cleaner casually lowered himself back to earth and wandered across to a nearby ambulance where he was checked over by paramedics.

One eyewitness who watched the man sleeping for half an hour and feared that an accident at work could unfold told reporters, "I figured he had just either passed out or maybe he had fallen asleep.

"It's sunny up there and there's no wind."
