Widower's £300k compensation claim for fatal car accident

A widower from Maidenhead is launching a six-figure car accident compensation claim against the teenaged driver who caused his wife's death.

The driver, then aged 18, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving in March. She is now serving 30 months in a Young Offenders Institution in Middlesex.

Courts heard how the Suzuki Jimny she was driving mounted the curb and pinned a passer-by against a wall. The 42-year-old victim sustained serious chest injuries and died at the scene.

The teenager admitted she was reading a text message on her mobile phone at the time of the car crash.

Her mother, a qualified driving instructor, was with her in the Suzuki when the accident happened. She was charged with the same offence as her daughter, but not convicted.

Now the disabled man who lost his wife and full-time carer in the crash is launching a car accident claim worth at least £300,000.

His accident claim solicitors based their valuation on the cost of care she provided, both to her husband and their grandchildren, and her funeral expenses.

They filed his car accident compensation claim in the High Court yesterday.
