Widow makes accident claim for holiday accident

A widow has made an accident claim against a hotel group after her husband was killed falling down a lift shaft.

Jennifer Fareham, 62, decided to contact personal injury solicitors and make a compensation claim for the death of her husband, Richard, 61.

The couple were staying at Learmonth Hotel, Edinburgh, in September 2003, when Mr Fareham became trapped in the lift. He was told by a member of staff that an engineer would take about 20 minutes to arrive but began to feel claustrophobic in the confined space.

Mr Fareham began kicking and punching the walls of the lift and eventually forced the doors open, but when he tried to climb out he fell down the shaft.

Mrs Fareham contacted compensation solicitors and made an injury claim against Jarvis Hotels, who ran the hotel at the time of the fatal accident.

In her accident claim, Mrs Fareham states that her husband's death could have been prevented if the lift had been fitted with a safety guard to prevent people from falling.
