Whiplash injury could be reduced by new Mercedes car in 2011
Neck injury claims from victims of whiplash injury might be reduced if the Mercedes-Benz SLK 200K car, due to be released in January 2011 and available in Britain in June, becomes popular with road users.
Not only does the car include extra safety measures for pedestrians, should they be in a collision with the vehicle, but the two-seater has enhanced airbag protection for the driver and front passenger.
Instead of having one airbag for each individual, there are two, giving protection from a side impact as well as a collision from the back. The car also comes with NECK-PRO crash-responsive head restraints which have been developed by Mercedes-Benz, which should greatly reduce the risk of whiplash injury.
In case a child seat needs to be placed in the passenger seat, the car's airbags can also be programmed to recognise that a child seat is in use.
Victims of road traffic collisions often suffer whiplash injury which can be very stressful. If more vehicle manufacturers make advances in airbag safety and restraints, injuries might be reduced as well as claims for pain, suffering and personal injury.
