Compensation award for 'regrettable incident'
A London woman has won her whiplash injury compensation claim against a drunk driver who crashed into the rear of her vehicle in July of 2006.
The woman was travelling home from a late shift at a south London leisure centre when the drunk driver, who was travelling at around twice the 15mph speed limit, crashed into the rear of her new Vauxhall, causing her to collide with a street sign.
The car accident happened at around 10pm in a residential area of Bermondsey. The Motor Insurers Bureau, a body who deal with cases involving uninsured and unlicensed drivers, accepted liability for the no win no fee compensation claim.
The 21-year-old man who caused the car crash was driving a Peugeot and sustained neck injuries and a broken nose in the road accident.
In an earlier hearing the solicitor representing the defendant claimed that the man felt, "genuine regret over the car accident". He added that he had since undergone drug and alcohol counselling and been prescribed medication for a depressive illness.
The no win no fee solicitor representing the 36-year-old London woman in the whiplash injury compensation claim said that she had experienced "substantial pain and inconvenience because of the car accident." He said that she had only recently been able to return to her job as a personal trainer because of complications resulting from the whiplash injury.
