Norwich Union unsure of whiplash study

A new study by driving research group Thatcham which suggests that whiplash is unlikely to occur in car accidents at speeds of less than 10mph has had cool water poured on it by Norwich Union (NU).

Thatcham had speculated that the findings would be of benefit in reducing the number of whiplash claims for compensation.

The Insurance Times quoted NU's head of motor claims, Richard Ellis, as saying, "Although in theory it might be difficult to obtain whiplash, particularly at low speeds, there are extenuating circumstances, such as the facing direction of the driver's head at the time of collision, that make it difficult to prove that whiplash was not caused."

UK no win no fee solicitors deal with more whiplash compensation claims than any other kind of personal injury claim stemming from car accidents.

In fact, 85% of all car accident personal injury claims are for whiplash injuries.
