Fewer whiplash injury claims could be made for accidents
Recent research has shown that car makers Volvo and Saab could reduce the number of whiplash injury claims being made by customers involved in road accidents.
The latest tests carried out by Thatcham, the independent testing body, have given praise to the two manufactures for protecting their customers against the risk of suffering neck injuries in possible vehicle accidents.
Of the many car seats tested for whiplash protection in the study, only 16% were defined as good with 36% being rated as poor.
The test report from Thatcham said, "Many manufactures introduced designs that attempted to reduce whiplash injuries, but the test showed that many simply do not work."
Cars rated as poor in the study but good on other safety features included the BMW 1 and 3 series, Citroen C4, Lexus GS and Peugeot 1007.
Volvo or Saab owners have been reassured by the study that in the unlikely event of a car accident, their chances of suffering neck injuries and having to make whiplash injury claims will be reduced.
