Personal injury claim news
Teenager could struggle to make an accident claim
A teenager whose head swelled up to the size of a football after using L'Oreal hair dye has vowed never to use home hair dye ever again.
Jack Taylor, of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, will find it difficult to make an accident claim for his allergic reaction as L'Oreal instructions clearly state that a skin test should be carried out 48 hours before using the dye.
The 15-year-old claims that he carried out a skin test on his arm but still suffered personal injuries from the product when it was used 48 hours later.
He said, "My head was swollen to the size of a football and I couldn't see out of one eye.
"I went to the hospital and I was given steroids and antihistamines, but I've still got a nasty rash all over my body.
"I've not been able to go back to school after it."
In a statement, L'Oreal said that they were very concerned to hear about Jack's head injury but insist that a skin test would have detected an allergic reaction.
They added, "We are very concerned to hear of any negative consumer experience.
"These potential reactions can be detected by carrying out the skin allergy test as directed, 48 hours before using the product, every time it is used.
"Independently reviewed scientific studies show that this skin allergy test is 100% effective in helping to detect any potential sensitivity that the consumer may have to a hair colourant.
"It is a matter of biology that it takes up to 48 hours for the body to show any reaction."
Jack may decide to contact a personal injury solicitor but he could find it very difficult to make a successful accident claim for his head injuries.
