Taxi driver suffers leg injuries in car accident

A taxi driver involved in a collision outside a shopping centre in Welwyn Garden City was taken to hospital suffering from serious personal injuries.

The blue Ford Mondeo taxi collided with a Renault Clio on the 20th October at the junction between Marsden Road and Handside Lane, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the road accident and the taxi driver was taken to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with personal injuries to his legs.

A police spokesperson said the female driver of the Clio escaped from sustaining injuries such as whiplash but is suffering from shock.

John Thompson lives on Handside Lane and witnessed the taxi accident.

He said, "There was an almighty bang and skidding noise. I heard it eight doors away."

Mr Thompson said a number of near car accidents have occurred on the same stretch of road and many residents have called for traffic calming measures to be installed before somebody is involved in a fatal accident.

He said, "A lot of people have said it's an accident waiting to happen. You always hear near misses with tyres screeching.

"The road deserves speed bumps."
