Quad bike accident led to student's Greek holiday death
An 18-year-old student, who was celebrating the end of his A-levels, died in a holiday accident in Greece when the quad bike he was riding crashed off the road.
A Winchester inquest was told the youth was in Rhodes with two friends when they decided to hire two 250cc machines for sight-seeing. The victim of the motorbike accident and one of his friends did not have any experience of riding them.
After briefly testing the quad bikes, they set off but within a short distance the leading bike veered off the road into bushes. His friends found the victim of the vehicle crash with blood on his face and his helmet smashed.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, the deputy central Hampshire coroner, Simon Burge, said he would have liked to call the police as witnesses to the holiday accident, but there had been a lack of co-operation from the Greek authorities.
