Family proceeds with father's compensation claim
The family of man who died from mesothelioma are proceeding with the personal injury compensation claim he began making shortly before his death in February 2005.
Electrician Derrick Fisher of Workington, Cumbria, died at the age of 83 from the industrial disease mesothelioma, which he believed he developed whilst working in coal mines during the 1970s.
Mr Fisher contacted a personal injury solicitor and made a compensation claim seeking damages of between £50,000 and £100,000 against the Department of Trade - the successors of the National Gas Board.
He stated that his employer failed to safely remove asbestos and provide protective breathing equipment and clothing.
Unfortunately, he was never able to finish his injury compensation claim and so his sons, Barry, 63, Kevin, 56, and Michael, 55, are continuing his fight in a bid to raise awareness of the asbestos-related disease.
Michael said, "My dad decided to take this on, but he did not survive long enough. When he died, we decided to keep going. It is probably what he would have wanted."
The compensation claim continues.
