Soldier awarded personal injury compensation
A soldier who was involved in a car crash five years ago has finally been awarded £300,000 in personal injury compensation.
Lance Corporal Martyn Flynn, 29, from Warrington, was attending a training course in Dorset in 2001 when he suffered serious personal injuries in a vehicle accident.
Mr Flynn was left with severe cuts to his face and a broken leg, which after a number of operations left him with one leg shorter than the other.
He later paid £25,000 for private medical treatment and had a frame attached to his leg to stretch the bone by one and a half inches.
He said, "Because the frame was held in place by pins, it had open wounds and I only had to step outside to catch an infection, which caused searing pain. Five years of my life have passed me by. I've been stuck indoors, in a wheelchair."
Mr Flynn's wife, Michelle, was six months pregnant at the time of the road accident and had to give up work to care for him full-time.
Personal injury solicitor, Jonathan Betts, said, "He has undergone a complete lifestyle change and lost the chance of a promising career in the Army."
Mr Flynn was awarded by the Motor Insurance Bureau a total of £300,000 in personal injury compensation.
