Soldier makes compensation claim for Iraq incident
A soldier suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress after serving in Iraq has been awarded £375,000 in compensation.
The soldier contacted a personal injury solicitor and made a compensation claim after witnessing his colleague suffer serious personal injuries in April 2003.
The injured soldier was also awarded a substantial amount of injury compensation for losing his arm when an anti-tank missile misfired.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said, "The MoD can confirm that £375,000 was paid to a soldier who witnessed a colleague being seriously injured when a 94mm light anti-tank rocket malfunctioned.
"The MoD is liable as the weapon was deficient and the accident occurred in a non-combat situation."
Two more soldiers have made compensation claims for Post-Traumatic Stress after witnessing the accident. Their personal injury claims are yet to be decided.
