Man wins accident at work compensation for crush injury
A skip worker from Burnley, Lancashire, has been awarded £175,000 in accident at work compensation after suffering severe personal injuries when a skip fell on top of him.
The 42-year-old worker from Oswaldtwistle had been delivering a skip when it fell and crushed his hand. It was later revealed that the skip had not been correctly stacked.
The man sustained serious crush injuries in the work accident, causing him to lose his index finger and his thumb, which was amputated at the scene of the accident. He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he underwent specialised micro-surgery.
The personal injuries sustained in the accident were so severe he has been unable to return to his job as a skip worker and finds everyday tasks difficult to carry out.
The man's employer admitted liability for the work accident, acknowledging that several of the skips were damaged and it had been dangerous to stack them.
The worker was awarded £175,000 in accident at work compensation but stated that no amount of money could compensate him for the pain and suffering he had endured in the incident.
