Brandy on receiving end of compensation claim
US singer Brandy is the subject of a personal injury compensation claim after being involved in a car accident that left a 38-year-old woman dead.
Waitress Awatef Aboudihaj suffered serious personal injuries in the December 30th road traffic accident and later died in hospital.
Now the woman's parents are suing Brandy, real name Brandy Norwood, for $50 million after claiming that the singer was driving recklessly when her Land Rover hit the rear of their daughter's Honda, causing it to strike the central reservation.
The collision resulted in a four-car pile-up in which Ms Aboudihaj sustained her fatal injuries. It is not believed that Brandy was hurt in the car accident.
Shortly after the car crash, Brandy's spokeswoman released a statement expressing her condolences to the dead woman's family, saying, "The accident was a terrible tragedy and Brandy's heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj's family."
Los Angeles police officials have recommended that Brandy be charged with misdemeanour vehicular manslaughter following the road accident and could face a penalty of one year in prison and a fine of $1,000 if convicted.
The personal injury compensation claim has been filed at Los Angeles Superior Court but no date has yet been set for a trial.
