Woman hit by shopping trolley recovers from neck injury

A shop worker attempting to raise the United States flag sustained a serious neck injury after a prankster tied a shopping trolley to the top of a flagpole.

Trinidad-born Shantie Maraj was going about her usual business at Ralphs supermarket in Pasadena, California when the work accident happened.

Ms Maraj started her day on the 21st October like any other day. She tied helium balloons to the outside of the shop on Colorado Boulevard and went on to raise the flag outside the shop's entrance.

Completely unaware that somebody had hoisted a shopping trolley to the top of the 60 foot flagpole, Ms Maraj unwound the rope and the large trolley came crashing down onto her head.

She suffered serious personal injuries in the workplace accident and was taken to hospital where she received treatment for her neck injury.

Ms Maraj was described as a valuable employee, who never missed a day from work and always started the day on time.

Many people living in the area have become friends with Ms Maraj and want to know who caused the near fatal accident.

Police are appealing to witnesses with information that could lead to the identity of the prankster who caused Ms Maraj's severe neck injuries.
