Suffolk schools left to do the maths over personal injury compensation claims
It has recently come to light that Suffolk schools have paid out a total of £646,000 in personal injury compensation claims over the past five years. This figure formed the bulk of liability payouts amounting to over £660,000 relating to incidents at schools in the county.
A spokesperson for Suffolk County Council said, "The total value of the compensation payments that have been made over the past five years in relation to incidents in schools is £665,851."
The largest single personal injury compensation claim payout went to a teacher who received £199,967.14. The teacher had suffered serious personal injury as the result of an assault.
The largest personal injury compensation claim payout received by a student amounted to £38,222.37, while another received £11,683 from an accident claim.
Compensation claim payments were made for a variety of reasons such as personal injury, accidents at work, bullying, theft, and vandalism.
Personal injury compensation claims made up 12 out of 13 of all five figure Suffolk school compensation payouts between 2001 and 2006.
