No-win, no-fee compensation news
18/10/2010

Teenager hopes for settlement

A teenager from West Lancashire is hoping to secure no-win, no-fee compensation for a school-related accident which left him with multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, broken ribs, a perforated eardrum and a damaged optic nerve.

The boy, now 18, had been among a group of pupils taken to an out of bounds area by his headmaster, the roof of a school building, when he fell through a skylight; the group was said to all have been "slightly inebriated".

Last week, the headmaster was convicted of failing to take reasonable care of the students and ordered to pay a fine of £25,000.

The boy's studies were seriously interrupted by the accident and his accident injuries have, it is claimed by his personal injury lawyer, led to him being at a serious disadvantage in the employment market.

The no win, no fee compensation lawyer commented, "His job prospects are much more limited than they were before the accident. Without perfect vision, he could not, for example, join the armed forces or services, such as the police or fire brigade, or drive a heavy goods vehicle."

Commenting on the resolution of the related criminal prosecution of the headmaster, the boy's mother said, "It's two years since the accident happened and the legal case has dragged on. It felt like a black cloud was hanging over the family and we just wanted it to end."

It is thought that the successful prosecution will have an impact on the boy's chances of claiming no-win, no-fee compensation.
