Twelve men make asbestosis compensation claim

Twelve former railroad workers who have developed asbestos-related diseases are suing their former employer, Illinois Central Railroad.

Each of the railroad workers has made an asbestosis compensation claim after being exposed to hazardous asbestos materials whilst working for Illinois Central Railroad.

The compensation claim alleges that Illinois Central Railroad used a number of asbestos materials including sheeting, lagging, floor tiles and insulation blocks.

"By at least the mid-1930s, if not earlier, Illinois Central Railroad knew or should have know that occupational exposure to dust could result in asbestosis and related adverse health affects, including cancer," the complaint said.

The men could potentially be awarded $100,000 each if their asbestosis compensation claims are successful.
