Fallout from Buncefield disaster still forms black cloud over lives

16 months may have passed since the Buncefield oil disaster, but hundreds of people are still suffering the fallout. A personal injury solicitors in Watford is handling the compensation claims of around 270 people whose lives were dramatically affected by the industrial accident.

The claims for uninsured losses - many of them personal injury compensation claims, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - are being made against Hertfordshire Oil Storage, the company which owns the Buncefield site. The company says that it is committed to settling all the compensation claims as quickly as possible.

For one retired couple, both of who are 70, the repercussions of the industrial accident are still keenly felt. They lost their home and outbuildings in the disaster and have already had more than £300,000 paid out, through the Watford based personal injury solicitors, for building work designed to repair their property.

The 70-year-old woman said, "I am happy with the way they handled the claim, but they chose the wrong builder. They chose the cheapest and the one who has the furthest to travel."

The repairs still remain unfinished more than a year since the builders commenced the work. But, the woman said that she would still recommend the personal injury solicitors to other people needing to make a compensation claim.
