Slap assault lawyer faces formal tribunal
A Birmingham personal injury solicitor, it has been reported, may face suspension or a hefty fine following a 2006 assault on a female hotel manager.
The man, who is a partner in a high-profile legal firm and accredited by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, has admitted the assault, which occurred while celebrating a won court case.
More recently, this has been brought to the attention of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, a branch of the Law Society, and they have decided that the personal injury solicitor must face a tribunal, which could fine him up to £5000, or have him struck off.
A spokesperson for the SRA said, "It is important that solicitors' conduct out-side the workplace does not bring the profession into disrepute. It is a serious matter to appear before the tribunal."
The personal injury solicitor in question may, in fact, escape with a lighter sanction as he is said to have an unblemished prior record. His field of expertise includes head injuries, spinal injuries, and compensation claims on behalf of children.
