Personal injury solicitor facing jail
A personal injury solicitor is facing being ousted from his job after admitting causing a car accident whilst intoxicated.
The 41-year-old Northampton man has appeared in court following a road accident in March that left his Mercedes E320 extensively damaged and another man with serious personal injuries.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs and will be sentenced early in 2008.
A jail term could mean the end of his legal career and, as the sole owner of his law practice, his business would probably be forced to close down too.
Bringing this to the attention of the judge at Northampton Crown Court, the personal injury solicitor's barrister said: "A harsh sentence would destroy all that he has worked for and would have a devastating impact upon his employees."
Adjourning the case until next year, the judge warned him: "You are straying on to rather dangerous ground and you'll have to be more careful."
