Inspector warns of home personal injury risks

An inspector in Leeds has warned of personal injury risks befalling owners of new houses as a result of shoddy workmanship, telling the Yorkshire Evening Post that bosses on the construction sites have failed to listen to him.

The man, who has asked to remain anonymous, told his local paper, "Some of these properties are extremely dangerous – they are potential deathtraps.

"The council needs to sort this out. It is an accident waiting to happen.

"Someone could die here. I don't want to be the one saying afterwards 'I told you so', so I'm saying it now and giving them the chance to sort things out.

"I would not have my wife and kids living in these houses."

The inspector believes that the Swarcliffe home improvements, undertaken to bring homes up to Government standards, are being rushed and that workers are being asked to cut corners as a result of this. Plasterers have already suffered electric shocks from live pipework, and other faulty fittings could lead to homeowners appointing no win no fee solicitors to take out compensation claims against the construction companies should related accidents occur.

Responding to these allegations of personal injury risks, the construction company said, "We take seriously any concerns into safety and standards of workmanship. We will work with our mechanical inspectors to deal with the issues that have been raised."
