Brain injury compensation for Basingstoke man
A personal injury lawyer representing a 22-year-old man who suffered severe brain injuries in a 2003 road traffic accident has secured his client an accident compensation settlement worth more than £4million.
The Basingstoke claimant, who was 16 at the time of the accident, had been on his moped on the A339 Ring Road when he was rear-ended by a Jaguar. The force of the collision was so strong that the man's helmet came off and he was thrown to the road. He then spent six weeks in a coma.
"This case has been a long hard struggle from the date of the accident to the recent settlement because of the cataclysmic head and physical injuries," commented the personal injury lawyer handling the case.
"He needs support 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week and the cost of providing this is enormous. The family all realise they have a long hard road ahead but we believe this award will cover his care costs for the rest of his life." he added.
In summing up his decision at the High Court in London the judge commented, "There is no doubt in my mind that the accident was entirely the fault of the Jaguar driver."
A senior member of the personal injury lawyer firm responsible for handling the claim has been appointed by the Court of Protection to look after the claimant's finances, as the brain injury he sustained in the accident makes him unable to do so independently.
