Personal injury compensation lawyers start Polish team

Polish workers in the UK have been offered the chance to pursue personal injury compensation cases with a large firm of solicitors with branches around the country. As the number of Polish migrant workers in the country has passed the half-million mark, this comes, perhaps, as no surprise.

The team set up by Russell Jones and Walker includes two native Polish speakers, both fully trained in personal injury practice, and is led by Richard Geraghty, a partner at the firm. Geraghty said, "Many Poles are unfamiliar with the UK's approach to health and safety issues, they may not understand their rights under the law and often they're not aligned to unions which can look after their interests.

"They need access to justice in the same way as every other citizen does, but language may be a barrier"

A TUC spokesman has suggested that a no-win, no fee lawyer offering to take on a personal injury case is less important to these workers than linguistic issues, such as following briefings and warning signs, claiming that this potential misunderstanding could have "serious consequences".

If these consequences, however, are understood to include personal injury, compensation lawyers may be exactly what a migrant worker needs.
