Mother speaks of construction accident ordeal

A woman who became trapped under some hoardings which had become loosened by high winds is set to use a firm of no win, no fee solicitors to make a personal injury claim after the construction company responsible for the relevant Birmingham site were fined £17,000 for the incident.

The 58-year-old-mother has already refused an offer to settle the personal injury claim for £2,000, believing that her distress and injuries are deserving of more.

She told press of her ordeal and of her fear when she saw the hoardings blowing towards her, "I just could not get out of its path. I knew it was going to happen which is probably more scary than not knowing. I was absolutely petrified.

"I thought I'd suffered a brain injury and was just glad to be alive."

Fortunately for the mother, her injuries, which included cuts, bruises and lasting damage to her little toe, were not as bad as she'd initially feared, although she was only rescued from the hoardings after the valiant efforts of workers and passers-by combined to free her.

Her personal injury claim may well benefit from the fact that the construction company admitted responsibility for the accident during proceedings at Birmingham's Magistrates Court, as well as apologising to the claimant.
