Parents tell of "extremely difficult" decision
The parents of a teenage girl left paralysed in a tragic accident have told of the "extremely difficult" decision they faced in accepting a personal injury claim payout of £300,000 when their daughter might have been entitled to up to £3 million.
The 14-year-old suffered a severe spinal injury in 2004 when a concrete porch fell on her while playing at a friend's house in Hadleigh, Essex.
Accident compensation lawyers believe that the girl's personal injury claim could have been worth between £2million and £3 million. However, since the housing association responsible for maintaining the property in question denied all liability for the accident, the teenager's parents were faced with the difficult decision of accepting a reduced payout or the possibility of receiving nothing.
The accident compensation lawyer representing the girl and her family told the judge,"The decision to accept this offer was not an easy one for these parents."
It is understood that the parents of the girl will use the money received from the personal injury claim to pay for a specially adapted bungalow, as their daughter now faces the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
