Postman's trip forces early retirement
A pensioner could face losing her home after a postman has made a substantial personal injury claim against her for a slip and trip accident.
The 41-year-old postman is seeking compensation after he tripped outside the grandmother's front door and injured his knee.
His injury required keyhole surgery to repair a torn ligament and the former postman was forced to take early retirement due to health reasons.
The elderly woman has been sued for £68,000 in personal injury compensation and costs and now faces selling her house to help cover the costs.
Since the £80,000 property was bought with a substantial mortgage, even after selling her home, the woman could still owe tens of thousands in debt.
Her friends and family are helping to raise the £6,000 minimum needed to pay for a lawyer to appeal the sentence.
The judge is to make a final decision next month on the value of the retired postman's personal injury claim.
