Teacher makes accident claim for larynx damage
A personal injury claim has been made by an Australian teacher after she says she has permanently damaged her larynx yelling at rowdy children.
The 39-year-old's claim is believed to be the first of its kind in the world and could see the teacher gaining £500,000 in accident compensation if her case is successful.
She claims that she suffered vocal damage after the school failed to provide her with adequate classroom assistance.
Her claim states that the school where she worked should have rotated her duties which would have reduced her contact with the noisy class. She also claims that she was given insufficient training to help prevent her from being injured and that there was not enough staff to monitor the high number of students in her class.
The class she was supervising comprised 31 special needs children who included two autistic children and several pupils with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Her personal injury compensation claim includes amounts for general damages, past economic loss, future impairment of her earning capacity and medical expenses.
