Wigan teenager makes compensation claim for burns

A teenager from Wigan is set to make a personal injury claim after losing large amounts of hair in a botched bleach treatment at her local salon.

The 19-year-old suffered chemical burns and weeks of pain and embarrassment after a hairdresser applied excessive amounts of bleach to the teenager's hair and left it on more than the recommended time period.

The nursery nurse has been told it will take up to three years for her hair to grow back to normal and she even had to cancel a holiday due to potential damage further heat exposure could cause her.

Speaking of her experience, the girl said, "It was quite sore for months and months and it was very difficult to wash my hair. I was meant to be going to Tenerife for a holiday but the doctors told me not to go because the heat would make things worse."

This report comes after calls for a tighter regulation of salons following a number of similar stories involving personal injuries suffered by clients.

The teenager's personal injury lawyer hopes that a successful outcome to the girl's case will help prompt tighter regulation of safety procedures across the country.
