Aeroplane passengers injured as faulty flight crash lands
Travellers on a BA CityFlyer Avro 146 jet may be looking to make passenger injury claims after several passengers were injured when the plane's nose landing gear collapsed as it touched down at London City Airport.
The plane's 67 passengers were surrounded by thick smoke as they tried to disembark from the disabled aircraft and those on board reported having to "queue" to get off the flight because of a public address problem.
The plane accident came about after a fatigue crack led to the nose landing gear fracturing as it hit the runway. It was found that the crack had formed as a result of "poor finish during manufacture" and the American-based landing gear company was found not to have fully completed work on the aircraft, despite the company's records showing it had been.
The flight, which had arrived from Amsterdam, took place on the evening of February 13th 2009 and the incident led to the temporary closure of the airport.
Since the accident, a number of safety actions regarding inspections and maintenance have been made to ensure that further plane accidents and related passenger injury can be avoided.
