Parents fear over asbestosis compensation claims

Parents in Brighton have decided to keep their children out of school in fear that they could be exposed to asbestos and in years to come have to make asbestosis compensation claims.

Up to a dozen five to seven-year-olds were taken out of Downs Infants School in Hollingdean Road, Brighton, after witnessing nearby building works where workmen were dressed in protective uniforms.

The firm which has been working on the site, Veolia, confirmed that asbestos had been taken from the buildings on site but reassured parents that it was safe for their children to remain at school.

But despite assurances, some children still haven't returned to school.

Parents are still concerned that their children could risk developing asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma and at a later date need to make a claim for asbestosis compensation.

A meeting will be held on Friday 24th November for parents to raise their concerns about the ongoing building work.
