Family say no to compensation
The parents of a young girl who had her finger severed in a freak accident at a historic castle in Durham have said that they will not be making a personal injury claim.
The holiday accident occurred when the family were visiting the popular tourist site and the girl's finger became wedged between the gate and the gatepost.
Although they are adamant that they will not be making a personal injury claim, the girl's parents say that they will fight to have safety improved at the location of the holiday accident. Rubber buffers have already been installed on the offending gate.
One cause of the parent's decision not to make a personal injury claim could be the fact that the girl is making a good recovery after having the severed portion of her finger reattached, although some concern about soft tissue damage does remain.
Even though her parents have opted against making a personal injury claim, the girl may decide, when she reaches 18 years of age, to employ a no win, no fee solicitor in order to seek accident compensation for herself.
