NHS Trust accepts liability for medical negligence
Parents of a stillborn twin have been awarded a five-figure sum after Walsall Hospital's NHS Trust admitted to medical negligence.
Donna and Matt Chidlow made a medical negligence claim following the death of their son Joshua in 2004.
They believe that following the birth of their first son Joseph, a caesarean should have been carried out after there were warning signs of a complicated birth.
Walsall Hospital's NHS Trust wrote a statement accepting clinical negligence for the birth accident.
They said, "The trust admitted liability for a breach of duty in this case and fully participated in an external review by the Healthcare Commission of the standards in the Obstetric Department."
The parents' solicitor, Louise Hunt, said that Joshua's death could have been prevented if doctors had performed a caesarean.
She said, "Instead they embarked after the delay on a series of treatments that were inappropriate."
Mr and Mrs Chidlow were awarded a five-figure sum in an out-of-court settlement for medical negligence.
