Equal pay claims escalate
Lawyers report that women seeking equal pay in the public sector are bringing as many as 1,500 cases to court each month under no win, no fee schemes.
Since the introduction of the no win, no fee scheme for equal pay, around 60,000 women have used the services of no win, no fee solicitors to try and achieve equal pay settlements. This has already cost taxpayers an estimated £1 billion.
It is estimated that up to 1.5 million women in the UK could make no win, no fee bids for equal pay. Higher-end predictions have forecast that these no win, no fee claims from female workers in schools, councils, police and hospitals could eventually cost over £10 billion.
