Lucky escape for most as whiplash hits only one in nine on M62

Fortunate travellers on the M62 near Halifax have come through a pair of accidents with only whiplash and minor injuries as ill effects. While traffic was slowed, the motorway was left open throughout the process of dealing with both accidents.

Both accidents occurred in the morning, before the peak moments of rush hour. In the first, which occurred at 6.40am, involved three cars and a van, and only one driver suffered whiplash. Police closed two carriageways for approximately an hour while handling the collision.

The second occurred at 6.55am, a little over 10 miles further along the motorway. Again, police were able to deal with the road traffic accident, involving three cars and two vans. Police report only minor injuries were received by these drivers.

Had these accidents occurred later, many more drivers could have been involved, potentially closing the motorway or causing more people to suffer personal injuries and make whiplash compensation claims.
