Grandfather seeks compensation at High Court
A grandfather-of-three has launched a road accident claim for a 2004 smash which left him hospitalised with multiple serious injuries.
However, his road accident claim could be complicated by the fact that around a year after the incident the 49-year-old lost his left leg because of MRSA-related complications.
Despite the difficulties the man has encountered, his zest for life appears unhindered. Although his injuries have forced him to stop work as a lorry driver, he has only recently taken up motorcycling. And he has decided to do it the ultimate way - astride a Harley Davidson.
He comments, "I rode bikes as a child and have been interested in them but never pursued it. I saw a guy at a local garage and he told me that riding a bike was something I could do. I bought a specially adapted electric gear changer, which was fitted to a learner bike that I practised on.
"I was stuck at home after the accident, and wanted something to aim for. It enabled me to focus on something else."
"This is the life I have been dealt so I have to make the most of it.
"My advice to anyone in any similar situation would be to not sit down. Motivate yourself to get up and do something. Go back to work, even if you have to force yourself. If you don't, life will just pass you by."
The motorcycle enthusiast's personal injury solicitor is due to argue the road accident claim at London's High Court in the coming months. They are believed to be seeking more than £300,000 compensation.
