Mother of brain damaged girl makes compensation claim

A midwife who made a compensation claim for the injuries her daughter suffered at birth has been awarded £4.8 million in medical negligence compensation.

The mother decided to contact personal injury solicitors and make a birth injury claim against Newham Primary Care Trust after her daughter was starved of oxygen following complications at Newham General Hospital.

The girl, now aged eight, was left severely brain damaged and disabled with cerebral palsy and will require care for the rest of her life.

At the High Court, the judge said, "I can only say that I sincerely wish her and her parents the very best.

"I know there have been an awful lot of problems, but this will go some way to alleviate the problem."

With the help of personal injury solicitors, the judge awarded the mother £4.8 million for her compensation claim.
